Elk of the Great Smoky Mountains

Elk are large megafauna that historically shaped the ecology of the Appalachians. Since their reintroduction in 2001 and 2002, they have boosted local ecotourism economies and inspired thousands of national park visitors to preserve vital habitat. These images are part of a larger photography project that I have conducted for 5+ years to document their behavior, movement, and stories.
